Johnny Bishop presents the TRUTH Sessions EP

Album Overview

I was just thinking how I miss good old fashion music some days. I have found myself sitting back wondering where the musicians are in this world. I mean why does one have to seek out dives throughout America to find good ones? Just as I was thinking about this, our God proved again that He always knows our hearts and placed the Truth Sessions EP into my lap. Johnny Bishop, who represents East Wheaton Productions, brings a collaboration of many artists with this ongoing project for youth ministry. I love that so many HHH artist are moving away from self and moving toward doing what is right to honor the Father. More and more you see believers making music with a singular purpose: to bring honor and glory to the Gospel by purposely trying to reach people and not just making tight songs. I love it!

I am not as familiar with Johnny Bishop so this was a nice introduction to his work. It was sound with Bible based teaching, had a nice flow to the musical arrangements, and truly seemed to present the Gospel with a sincere heart for Jesus. What I enjoyed the most is I felt like each track was either live or recorded with a live band. Not totally sure that is the case so don’t quote me, but if so, wow! What a refreshing sound to hear that hip hop sound behind real live music. If you are new to the faith and enjoyed The Roots of the secular world, then Johnny Bishop is going to be your transition artist. I love the collaborations as well. On this FREE CD, hold up, did you hear me? I said FREE CD, you are getting hit with artist like S. Brindle (Believin Stephen), DJ Elder, Cas Metah, Billy Bo, D. Bishop, reSEARCH , and Aaron Paul!

Just take my word; you will love this album as a change of pace listen if you are a true hip hop head. If you are a casual fan, this may be more up your alley as well, since it is musically desirable and lyrically creative. There are tons of devotion done on these tracks and guess what? They even manage to preach the Gospel from time to time. I know, I know. You’re thinking, “Idnat Sumthin?!?” But seriously, this is a great pick up for all believers with a heart for rap.

Spiritual Significance

Like I mentioned earlier there is a ton of plain old fashioned Gospel preached on this album. You’re also going to be met with a few challenges here and there to practice what you preach. Tracks like, “Is There Any Love?” ft. Karl Nova, Butta P. & Octavia Harris will have you asking yourself am I walking this out. I think as believers we need to be reminded daily that anything that is done without Love, is worthless. I like the message that relying on God’s love alone and just how integral it is to the faith is handled. I see us missing simple concepts like this as we seek more challenging phases to our working for the Lord. It is vital that we get our foundation set on things like reliance on God’s love as the corner stone of our spiritual building. You are not going to get many deep theological issues that can be debated like the days of the apostles, but you will be enriched and inspired for the Lord on every spin. Just keep in mind that there are different strokes for different folks and we all need to get fed in different ways. Otherwise, we’d all be looking at these artist like, “Whatchu talkin bout Willis?”
