Christains at a Party ?
i host a bible study discussion at Western Connecticut State University and this past tuesday partying and clubing came up. A heated debate was stirred because half the room felt it was ok to Party with friends as christains as long as you were only goin with intentions of being a good friend and not leaving them hangin, as long as they didnt drink or conducted themself in a worldly manner they can go clubbin, also in favor of partying a few said that i dont wanna come off as "holyer than thou" so i go to show them im not stuck up. the other half of the room said it is in no kind a way acceptable by God standard for Christian to be willingly going in to that enviroment. the debate went on and on. As the host i stated that i dont no believe that kind of enviroment is conducive for what God wants for us. I don't see how God is being Glorified. i went into more details, but i still felt unprepared for that discussion. i need some bibical references and more advice for our next meeting. hit me up and let me know what you guys think.
"All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify. " - 1 Cor 10:23
"31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God; 33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved." - 1 Cor 10:31-33
bottom line... they have the liberty in Christ to do so, but ask them how Christ is glorified by participating in such activities? and will going cause another brother/sister in the faith to stumble? plus, there are LOTS of places outside of a club or party where we can gather together with unbelievers that won't lend to temptation
lj.
..yeah i agree totally bro. Clubbin isn't condusive to growth..and that's the whole point of the Christian walk. It's a tough call for some but we're supposed to be growin in Christlikeness. Not everybody can go to the club without bein tempted..there's mad sinful behavior goin on with the girlies and such, drinkin, smokin etc. So far i haven't played in any clubs but if the Lord put that on my heart i'd bring along an accountability partner to avoid any nonsense..and i'd have to be prayed up bigtime.
I stopped clubbing because I was told it was wrong, in addition, I didnt want to be caught out and didnt want to be seen as a hypocrite. It wasn't until my one of my close friends was leaving for NJ (we were in London) that everyone decided to throw her a surprise party in an upscale club, that i felt like.. "its my girl, I have to represent and just go for like and hour"
That was the worst time for me.
First, the music that was playing was now amplified. This is to say that the lyrics had now jumped out and I was hearing what the artist was saying. It was foul and profane! Funny thing is, it was not a new jam, i had once been an individual who would love to dance to it.
Secondly, the worse the music got the more grimy the dancing became. I felt suffocated. I tried to fight those thoughts.. then realised, I didnt know how to dance (I have been a dancer all my life - so I do have rhythem)
Lastly, I looked up at the balcony and said to myself, if Jesus was standing on up at the balcony, would he recognise me? Further more would I be raptured?
With that, I got my friends keys and said, this aint a place for Christians and I walked out.
You can call it Christian or spiritual maturity, but I was not reading my word as I should have been. Call it conviction, maybe. I just call it good ole fashion "a fear of God"
I dont think I have been in club setting since. - I SO WANT TO BE CAUGHT UP IN THE RAPTURE.
with all that said, I dont necessarily have scripture aside the one I live by Leviticus 11:44 For I am the LORD your God, so you must consecrate yourselves (U) and be holy because I am holy.
Then define Holy and concecrate
This will lead to forming a basis and a trail of thought.
But I guess everyone is different, and the word of God falls on different ground..sad but true

thanks for the advice on that guys, my continuation of that teaching is tomorow. im a use that stuff as a basis for the discussion. good looking out

good question.
in my opinion, unless someone is going to witness at the club, i don't see a point in entering a place where all it is is secular music, drinking, and sinful dancing. if people wanna enjoy a party, throw one among your Christian friends at someone's house/dorm or whatever.
